Why are products on sale while they are in demand?

why do stores make prices lower during the holiday season as opposed to higher? i understand that they are trying to draw in customers but wont they come in anyways? idk to me it just doesnt make sense because i think that all stores could agree to raise prices so consumers would have no choice but to suck it up and pay those prices

1. im one of those people that wouldn't buy it if it was expensive. but thats not the question lol i think that they would do this so that people can "save" money and buy MORE gifts for their loved ones, thus selling more and turning a large profit. for example if i wanted to buy someone a set of dish ware :P i would buy the matching pots lol XD hope this helps. =] (and lets not jynx high prices my friend =])
