how can i open the file directory of my iPhoto library?

I want to open my iPhoto library as a file directory like any other on my Mac. But it won't let me. The iPhoto library appears to be this impenetrable icon and I can't get inside it. I like to be able to manage my photos as individual files, inside OR outside of iPhoto.

  1. You should be able to browse the following directory Documents/Pictures/iPhoto. In this directory there is a Folder called originals which contains the files. If you are unable to browse Documents/Pictures/iPhoto check if you have privileges to access it. Select the directory and click Apple+I (to get info). New panel should open and in its lower part there is section Ownership and Permissions. Change "You can:" to "Read and write".
