How do I connect an external Samba box to a Mac OS X Server running Open Directory (LDAP)? Samba v3 is running on Red Hat. I have SWAT setup and users can access the directory but there's no authentication yet. I want to connect it to our Mac OS X server running Open Directory, so that it has an LDAP backend. That way all authentication will be done on our LDAP server rather than the Samba box. All the informaton and documentation I've poured through have been for WinXP boxes and Active Directory setup. The documentation for Samba on Apple's website was for running Samba on the server itself rather than on an external box. I've played around the with the smb.conf file, setting various options and messing with the LDAP lines but I would like to know exactly how to set this up.

Do I need permission to add a company to my open directory.? Basically I am developing an Adventure Travel Directory and we are adding trips that companies sell into the directory and from there they can market to visitors to our site. We are not charging the companies anything. It has been a big problem trying to get in touch with all the companies because so many people are busy or not there. A friend of mine told me that I did not really need their permission to add them into my directory I just need to provide a way that they can opt out of the directory and let them know that I was adding them into it with a few weeks for them to consider opting out before doing so. i mean google or yahoo dosn't ask permission to add a site to their search. Is This The Case? Thanks.
How to make a file open without knowing the directory? I've made a small program that I want to send to my friend. It has one batch file and one vbs file. The batch file will open the vbs file after a command. ( it's not a virus) the problem is that I won't know the exact location of the vbs file after I send it to my friend. What could I do?
Can I use a Linux Server as an Open Directory for XP? Let me put things simpler. I'm building a Linux server for a client, and the client wants to have 5 terminals running Windows XP. The way he wants his system to work is that when the XP user logs in. His complete user profile including desktop documents and any other files that are saved in his 'my documents area, are obtained from the server, yet saved locally for offline use. This is why he wants this system: If his computer disappears tomorrow, he can login from a new computer, and everything including the stupid little picture of his dog on his desktop will still be there on the new computer. This goes without saying, that if he saves something on c: separately, or on another partition it will be lost with the old computer. This is apparently native in Microsoft Server 2003, I just want to do this for free using open source software. Someone told me that you can use Samba to do this. From what I can tell, Samba only handles basic LDAP. Not complete Profiles with files.
Why is it impossible to add a new site to dmoz.org (the open directory project) ? I have tried for around a month to add my website to the open directory project, using the correct methods, from the correct areas of the directory. However, I always get an error...saying come back in a few days. This has been going on for several weeks! Does anyone know why this is, or if I'll be able to add my site in the future? My site is http://www.dreamofrussia.com and the error page I always get is http://www.dmoz.org/unavailable.html. I want to submit to the shopping/ethnic and regional/european/russian area, but have also tried other areas with no success. Any help / information would be appreciated, thanks!

Is the DMOZ Open Directory still accepting submissions? I've been trying to add my website http://www.greensystemsuk.com to the DMOZ Open Directory but it's not been accepting new website submissions for over a month. All the user gets is a fault page and a message saying,"try back in a couple of days..". I've tried emailing but no response. Does anybody know what is happening with the DMOZ website?
How is the Open Directory Project (dmoz.org) being used today? The ODP was started back in the late 90s as an alternative to the Yahoo! directory. A distributed group of volunteer editors manually categorize Web sites and maintain an ontology. The data is available for browsing using a category tree at DMOZ.org. A file containing all the data is also available. I'm curious how people are using it today. Are you currently using the ODP? Do you use it to find Web sites? Do you submit Web sites? Do you use the RDF file?

WinXP: How do I open a certain directory in windows explorer from a batch file? I am using Windows XP and I would like to open a windows explorer instance starting in a certain directory while using the /e switch. My first attempt looked like this: start /max explorer.exe "D:\Files\Folder\Subfolder" That actually opens the directory I want it to open. My problem here is that I want to use the /e switch, because I think its annoying to click the folder-button every time. But when I phrased my statement like this: start /max explorer.exe /e "D:\Files\Folder\Subfolder" Then I got an error message telling me: "/e D:\Files\Folder\Subfolder" is not a directory or does not exist. So I tried this: start /max explorer.exe /e ,/select, "D:\Files\Folder\Subfolder" This does almost what I really want. But it doesn't open "Subfolder", it just selects it. Now what do I do, to make it open the specified directory and use the /e switch? P.S.: Please don't tell me to use ,/root, — I don't like what that does, because it doesn't allow me to switch to parent directories.

Is there a way to create a shortcut to a directory in Access? In MS Access 97 (Yes, my employer needs to upgrade), is there a way to create a shortcut to a directory in a table or form? It has to be tied to the record, as each will be different. I know there is a way to create a shortcut to a specific file, but in my case, a way to open the directory that file's in would be great. Thanks in advance!!
Open house directory? Im trying to find a website that lists a bunch of open houses in my area. Want to look into houses for purpose of living in one.
How to reduce the size of the pictures in the directory without actually opening them? I have a Kodak digital camera which captures photographs of size between 350kb to 1.5 mb. I use these pics for two purpose. Some to just view on the computer and some (high resolutions ones) to print some brochures. The ones I want to keep in the computer, I need them of very small size for example in less than 100kb, so as to save the space in the computer. Generally I copy the pics in powerpoint and right click on the pic and say save as and save as jpg file to see the size much reduced. But if I have to reduce the size of these pics in 100s together in the directory itself, without actually opening the pics, is there any way?
